Graduate Thesis

Interactive|Obsolete

|
A book, set of cards, and specially-designed box exploring the physical and conceptual possibilities of edge-notched card systems and the idea of the obsolete. This project was documented in the Select*d Collections, a publication of projects from the spring Graduate Studio at RISD, for which I also contributed the preface.

Mapping Daylight

|
Exploration into visualizing the varying sunrise and sunset times across the world. An automated script takes latitude and longitude coordinates and generates a customized sunrise and sunset calendar for that location, along with related geotagged flickr images.

Select*d Collections

|
A collaborative publication of work from the spring Graphic Design Graduate Studio II at the Rhode Island School of Design, taught by Bethany Johns and Nancy Skolos. Each member of the class contributed spreads detailing the process that led to their final work. I contributed both a set of spreads, as well as the preface. The cover was designed by Nancy Skolos. Select*d Collections is also available for purchase or download from Lulu.com. Select*d Collections

Can Do

|

Can Do is a collection of small steps everyone can take to enact positive change in the environment. It is based on the belief that a community of people interested in taking some of these steps together can be a powerful motivating tool, and empower us with the knowledge of our collective impact.

I developed the concept of Can Do in conjunction with a class called Zones of Emergency: Participatory Networks in the Spring of 2008, which was meant to explore the way online social networks can react to real-life situations. The course was taught in sister sections at both MIT and RISD.

My fully-functional site is still a work in progress, but you can wander through the working demo, or read the process documentation.

[recent news] inspired type face

This summer I was lucky enough to spend a week in the mountains of North Carolina, in a little slice of heaven known as Montreat College near Asheville. One of my favorite structures on campus is the stone bridge at the entrance, and I am in the process of creating a type face inspired by the lettering incorporated into the stonework.
